One of the field tests took place at a European EMS provider who manufactures circuit boards for industrial electronics equipment. Each board has approximately 1,000 components with a large proportion of ICs. The EMS started out with a basic line configuration consisting of two SIPLACE SX machines, each equipped with a SIPLACE MultiStar Collect & Pick & Place head. Shortly after making this investment, the EMS provider had to increase his throughput by 30 percent. With traditional systems, this would have required a major expenditure in additional equipment. With the SIPLACE SX, all he had to do was add another gantry to one of the machines. This gantry can be purchased or leased. With the added placement capacity from the new gantry and its additional 20-nozzle Collect & Place head, the SIPLACE line delivered more throughput and operated in a more balanced manner. Within a short period of time, the EMS provider was able to reduce his cost of ownership by an additional 30 percent compared with the original configuration.
